I bought castings of an original NE gun from Reaves Gorhing. Although it is
a casting from an original it was not from a Welcome Mathewson made gun.
The butt plate on the right shows the curve as cast. I was concerned it curved
to much and had Roy straighten the one on the left just a tad.
Here it is in the process of being cleaned up. You can see the bolt Roy
soldered to it to hold the plate while filing it.
We both decided the trigger guard which was cast from the same gun as the
butt plate was, was not a good fit for this rifle. So Roy went to work
modifying a trigger guard that was close but not exactly what we wanted.
Roy cut 1/2" out of the middle of the rail and took 1/4" off the front of the
bow. Also a lot of filing to get to this point.
