The lock I chose for this project is a R.E.Davis "Twigg" lock. Research shows
that Welcome and others here at that time used mainly imported English
locks on their guns. When the lock arrived, I was quite impressed with it. It
felt solid and seemed to be of the same quality as a Chambers lock. I have
since learned from a master builder that these are very problematic.
I let Roy know my concern about this lock right away before the build
started incase we needed to go with another lock. I absolutely do not want
any problems with this lock. This rifle must be 100% reliable. Roy took some
time and worked on the lock, tweaked it. The end result in the course of two
days, the lock lite the pan of powder 50 straight times using one of Rich
Pierce's flints, without doing a thing to the flint. A Fuller flint was then tried
and it worked as well. Roy proclaimed it as good as any Chambers lock right
now and thats good enough for me!
