I have whats left of an original half stock. The tang area wire inlay of this
stock will be duplicated onto my rifles stock. I have also requested this same
pattern be transfered onto both sides of the lower forearm, just ahead of the
lock panels to just above the entry pipe. The rest of the wire inlay work will be
taken from pictures we have of Welcomes work.
This original half stock also has a checkering pattern that was used on some
rifles back then. I have asked Roy to duplicate this also.
We couldn't exactly duplicate the original checkering due to having a thumb
piece. But thats ok, Roy was able to use the basic pattern, just altered
slightly. My main concern here was one, the tang wire inlay. Two, the thumb
piece and wire inlay that surrounds it. Three, the wire inlay ahead of the
comb. Lastly, the checkering had to fit around everything or we just didn't
do it on this rifle. The above is just a quick sketch to give us an idea how
everything will fit, the actual checkering came out slightly different than that
pictured here.
The forearm inlays were done at my request. I don't know if this was ever
done, probably not. But after looking at the tang inlay I thought if it was
straitened and put on the forearm it would be a nice addition.
