A Swampy Fowler bag
Sitting here waiting for a new smoothbore to arrive with great anticipation, I thought I would
finally tackle a hunting bag I always said I would make from the first time I saw it on page 83,
84 in T.C Albert's book "Recreating the 18th Century Hunting Pouch". I had already made a
double pouch bag for this gun but I really wanted to make my version of this original bag.
So I contacted The Weaving Welshman and had him make a nice 2 1/8" wide strap for this bag
and Wilde Weavery for the two 1" square iron buckles I will use on this bag. I already had 4 to
5 oz Oak tanned leather I figured to use for this bag so while I waited for the strap and buckles
I got to work on the pattern. While doing so I thought I would document step by step the
build, how I do it and maybe it will convince one or two out there who have never made a
hunting bag, to take on this endeavor themselves.
